Statement by Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi SLC Secretary General On the successful launch of ‘Zayed Ambition 2’ mission
3 Mar 2023

“We are proud to mark a new milestone in the history of the UAE as the Emirati astronaut Sultan Al Neyadi took off on the longest Arab space mission and the second mission of the UAE to the International Space Station, as part of the ‘Zayed Ambition 2’ mission. The mission reflects the insightful vision of our wise leadership that instilled in us the principle of ‘Nothing is Impossible’, which is evident in the quantum leap and future-driven vision of the UAE. This historic mission contributes to the success of the UAE Astronaut Programme that was initiated by H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai. Additionally, this mission also consolidates the prestigious position of the UAE among developed nations at the international level, thus catapulting it to the 11th position globally for sending an astronaut on a long-term space mission.

As we commemorate this historic milestone, we extend our congratulations and felicitations to our wise leadership for their ambitious vision that has led to this achievement, to the people of the UAE, and to the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre. We reiterate our unwavering commitment to further develop an integrated legislative system that meets the UAE's aspirations to further promote its pioneering position in advanced science and in future economy sectors, such as the space sector.”
