Statement by Ahmad bin Meshar SLC Secretary General on International Women's Day 2023
8 Mar 2023

As we commemorate the International Women’s Day, we are extremely proud to honour and celebrate the remarkable achievements and substantial contributions of women all over the world in progress and development. On this special day, we would like to extend our appreciation and express our respect to Emirati women for their outstanding achievements facilitated by our wise leadership and the unwavering support of the Mother of the Nation, H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, and pioneer of women empowerment and humanitarian work. The United Arab Emirates attaches great importance to empowering women and promoting their participation in all sectors, embodying the principle of equal opportunities for all. Hence, legislators in the UAE are committed to developing and enacting legislation that provides Emirati women with broader and more varied opportunities.

On this occasion, we, at the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (“SLC”) reiterate our commitment to further develop the legal framework upholding women's rights and supporting and empowering women across the nation. This is in line with our belief that women are key to the growth and advancement of the UAE and to the development of legislative work and to the creation of a more flexible and future-driven legislative system.
