“Nothing makes me happier than seeing women assume a significant role in society. Nothing must obstruct their advancement.” These are the words of the late founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who placed the empowerment of women as one of the top priorities. These words reverberate again today as clearly as we celebrate the Emirati Women’s Day. Today, we honour the unlimited support granted by our founding father to women that translated into exceptional achievements and outstanding contributions of Emirati women as active partners in our country.
Under the leadership of the Mother of the Nation, Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, the empowerment of Emirati women continues as they play a great role in supporting and strengthening goals to advance the nation at the global forefront for the next fifty years. Emirati women are equipped with science, knowledge, and most importantly, the determination to challenge the impossible and achieve our country’s ambitions.
We are confident in the ability of Emirati women and their crucial role in shaping the future of the UAE with excellence and strong leadership. As we celebrate this occasion today under the slogan “Women: Ambitions and Inspirations for the Next 50 Years", we at SLC reaffirm our commitment to provide Emirati women with the opportunities to participate in the pursuit for legislative excellence. Through encouraging their active participation in the development of progressive and forward-looking legislation, we are boosting the nation’s global image as a beacon of equality, tolerance, development, and progress, aligned with the directives and vision of H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and their brothers, Their Highnesses, members of the Federal Supreme Council, rulers of the Emirates.’
