2 Nov 2022

The Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) held a talk titled ‘Lessons from the Leader on Happiness and Positivity’, highlighting the significance of positivity in the work environment for enhancing productivity and improving performance. The talk, which was given by Dr. Mansoor Al Awar, Chancellor of Hamdan bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU), was attended by Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi, Secretary General of the SLC, Mohammed Juma Al Suwaidi, Assistant Secretary General of the SLC, and staff members of the SLC as well as the HBMSU.

“Through this talk, we aim to draw lessons from the insightful futurist vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, which is encapsulated in the book ‘Reflections on Happiness and Positivity’ authored by His Highness. This book gives insight and in-depth knowledge pointing readers towards using positivity as a resource for creative development solutions and a strategy for approaching challenges in novel and unique ways. The book also promotes adopting the concept of happiness as a way of life and a goal that governments and organisations seek to achieve.” Dr. Al Awar said, adding: “The book demonstrates how important it is to foster a positive work environment since it has a real impact on employees' productivity and performance. A happy and positive work environment also helps institutions attract and retain talent. The book also highlights the impact of happiness and positivity on the government work system as two factors that serve as a catalyst for innovation and creativity, spur productivity, lead to success, and shape a prosperous future. The book shows how happiness and positivity can contribute to achieving the UAE ambitious goals and consolidating its position as a leading nation in all fields.”

For his part, Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi said: “In line with the insightful vision of our wise leadership and the forward-looking government work strategies, happiness and positivity have become a culture and a lifestyle in the UAE. It is undeniable that approaching the requirements and challenges of the work environment positively enhances the ability of management to motivate work teams and optimise the use of available resources.” Al Muhairi elaborated: “The book ‘Reflections on Happiness and Positivity’ by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, offers a wealth of knowledge and constitutes an encyclopedia of life lessons and leadership strategies drawn from His Highness's exceptional leadership and management skills. Through this talk, we seek to derive utmost benefit from this valuable book which is a definitive reference for wisdom and management by positivity.”

Al Muhairi emphasised that holding the talk reflected the SLC’s keenness on reinforcing professional work ethics, promoting and disseminating the concept of positivity among the employees, with a view to achieving higher levels of happiness, increasing professional competence and productivity, and supporting business growth and development.

In his talk, Dr. Al Awar focused on two main topics – the first dealt with the importance of happiness and positivity and their impact on work environment and productivity; and the second touched on strategies for work teams to achieve success and attain targeted objectives. Dr. Al Awar’s talking points were inspired by the insightful thought and unique vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as embodied in his book: ‘Reflections on Happiness and Positivity’, excerpts of which he recited.
