The Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC) hosted a symposium titled ‘Khahwa Arabiyia’ (Arabic Coffee) to commemorate the World Arabic Language Day, which is observed on December 18 every year. The initiative focused on preserving and promoting the Arabic language and its significance, enhancing the sound pronunciation of its vocabulary, and illuminating its accurate meanings.
During the symposium, Salim Ibrahim Al Ahmad, Head of SLC Research and Publications Section, emphasised the significance of the Arabic language as one of oldest and richest languages. He shed light on the different linguistic characteristics of Arabic, emphasising its status as a language of diversity that bridges various cultures and borders and serves as a tool to express one’s thoughts and feelings. The symposium further included a presentation of Arabic statistics and data, as well as the session ‘Fanajeen Lughawia’, which illustrated the numerous typical linguistic differences and mistakes. Additionally, the symposium featured a various range of language competitions.
Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General, emphasised the role of this initiative in promoting the Arabic language in the society, particularly among the Dubai Government employees. He also noted that this initiative comes as part of the national efforts to advance the Arabic language and encourage its use among the younger generation who often rely on other languages to communicate, including the English language. Bin Meshar further stated that the initiative aims to establish the position of the Arabic language and promote it as the main language for interaction. He emphasised that all the UAE institutions have the responsibility to support and promote the Arabic language and its legacy. Bin Meshar also expressed his gratitude to the founder of the initiative, Mr. Salim Al Ahmad, commending the insightful information and explanations he had offered during the symposium regarding the correct use of the Arabic language, its vocabulary, and its meanings.
