Statement of H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General On the arrival of the Hope Probe to Mars's orbit
10/02/2021

"We are proud of this new historic achievement that strengthens the global leadership status of the UAE. Today, our cherished country has proved capable of engaging in the race to outer space demonstrating determination, perseverance, and competence, thanks to the unwavering support of our wise leadership that has enshrined and promoted a culture of possibilities, adopting the no-impossible approach.  The UAE has paved the way into a new era of excellence and leadership, armed by the efforts of Emirati youths who represent the UAE driving force and real wealth. The arrival of the Hope Probe to Mars represents a turning point in the ambitious development process that is inspired by the vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who said: 'We, in the UAE, are keeping pace with the changing times, and acquiring the latest inventions that will benefit us at present and in the future.'

This historic achievement delivers a strong message that the UAE is capable of strongly competing in the space sector, backed with a forward-looking legislative framework and a well-defined legal system. This has become evident in the launch of various space-related initiatives and issuance of space-related laws, most notably the law regulating the space sector, the Courts of Space Initiative, and the National Space Strategy 2030, all of which are considered key to establishing the UAE as an influential force on the global space investment map.  The UAE national drive towards excellence in research, development, innovation, and advanced technology has been steered by competent and qualified Emirati competencies. The successful arrival of the Hope Probe today to the orbit of the Red Planet is only a fraction of the numerous cultural achievements that continue to be made under the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces; and their brothers,  the members of the Federal Supreme Council,  Rulers of the emirates.

We are fully confident that our country is prepared for what the next 50 years have to offer in terms of exceptional prospects and promising opportunities to enhance investment in future sectors, especially the space sector, and employing them in the service of all humanity. We are committed to moving forward in the efforts to modernise the legislative system, so that it may keep pace with the strategic plans to enhance the leadership of the UAE and the Emirate of Dubai as active global partners in space exploration."
