Statement of H.E. Ahmad bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General, Marking the Emirati Women's Day 2019

Over the last few decades, Emirati women have proved to be key supporters, contributors, and partners in the unprecedented and comprehensive march towards the development of the UAE and have become effective role models in leadership and excellence thanks to the kind patronage and unlimited support of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the nation, who laid strong foundations for empowering the Emirati woman when he said, ‘ Nothing makes me more happy than seeing a woman live up to her special role in society. Women’s progress must not be hindered.’

Today, our wise leadership continues to carry on this message faithfully, under the forward-looking vision of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and his brother His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. At present, Emirati women play important roles in various political, economic, social, cultural, intellectual, and legal fields, where they have demonstrated remarkable excellence in leadership and earned significant achievements that we are genuinely proud of.

UAE women continue on their path towards excellence, with the unceasing support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), the ‘Mother of the UAE,’ who has participated with our Founding Father in laying down the foundation for woman empowerment - enabling Emirati women to contribute to the ambitious development march while maintaining and preserving authentic Arab traditions. Thanks to this unwavering support, the Emirati woman stands now as a great example for giving, success, and excellence.  We are honoured this year to celebrate women as a symbol of tolerance, expressing our appreciation of their pivotal role in instilling the culture of tolerance, which is one of the pillars of Emirati society that makes the UAE a global hub of tolerance, coexistence, and peace.  We look forward to continuing our endeavours to support the achievements of Emirati women, who now have a strong presence in the legal, legislative, and judicial fields, while also focusing on attracting, qualifying, and empowering women to support efforts aimed at developing an integrated legislative system that can support the sustainable development plans of Dubai in line with the vision of our wise leadership, which taught us that women have an important and vital role in empowering society and preserving its inherent values and principles.
