Statement by H.E. Ahmad Saeed bin Meshar Al Muhairi, SLC Secretary General, on Zayed Humanitarian Work Day
12/05/2020

On the 19th of Ramadan every year, the UAE commemorates the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day in honour of the legacy of the Founding Father of the UAE, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, a pioneer of humanitarian work. Sheikh Zayed, may his soul rest in peace, imparted the values of philanthropic giving and fraternity as firm pillars of the Union, presenting the world with a unique model of comprehensive development based on tolerance as a cherished value and chosen path. Today, our country is achieving great feats as a tolerant and giving nation, steadfastly following the path charted by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who said: “Man has to show mercy and compassion towards his brothers in humanity, to animals, and to plants. Allah will take mercy on those who show mercy and compassion”. Over the past few years, the UAE's remarkable humanitarian activities have benevolently touched all four corners of the world, etching the name of the UAE into the annals of history as a nation that has made a positive difference in the lives of millions all over the world.

The uphill march towards humanitarian work and philanthropic giving initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed has finally reached the top, with the UAE earning recognition as one of the world’s biggest donors of foreign humanitarian aid. This achievement is attributed to the wise policy of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who remain faithfully committed to the mission of charitable giving, providing humanitarian relief and development assistance needed to ensure the building of a safer future for all.

On this fondly cherished occasion we, at the Supreme Legislation Committee in the Emirate of Dubai (SLC), renew our pledge to our wise leadership to continue to promote a culture of giving, and to contribute to the UAE's outstanding humanitarian achievements as the world’s “Hope Maker”. We pledge to remain true to the principles of brotherhood, solidarity, and compassion to fulfill our national, humanitarian, and religious obligations with a view to achieving world glory for our beloved nation.
